Country Red and Country White cows, we salute you!

Over the years our vintage cow labels have had a great run, but all good things must end. This spring our Country Red and Country White cows are being put out to pasture, making these end-of-an-era bottles into collectibles.

Bottle collectors, take advantage of this opportunity to snap up some bottles for your collections.

But don’t worry, Country Red and Country White will continue! The same award winning wines you love will debut fresh new labels later this year!

Dunne on Wine Talks St. James Winery Fruit Wines

St. James Winery has an extensive menu of fruit wines.

Over the last 10 years, we’ve mastered the art of making award-winning fruit wines (the most awarded fruit wines in the country).

Thanks to Mike Dunn and his “Dunne on Wine” for the shout-out to fruit wines and St. James Winery in his recent column in the Sacramento Bee.

The results from the 15th annual Jefferson Cup Invitational wine competition are in, and St. James Winery won an impressive three Jefferson Cups out of the total 38 that were awarded. The winning wines for St. James Winery are 2013 Semi-Dry Vignoles, 2012 Estate Norton, and Friendship School White.

The Jefferson Cup Invitational is distinctive among wine competitions because it is the only invitational wine competition to honor the best of the best among wineries from all of America’s wine regions. This year more than 740 wines from 25 states were invited to participate.

“What is particularly exciting about the Jefferson Cup results is all the grapes that make up these wines were locally grown in our vineyards here in the Ozark Highlands American Viticulture Area (AVA),” said Peter Hofherr, CEO of St. James Winery. “In the wine industry people have started calling the Jefferson Cup the Olympics of wine competitions because the competition is by invitation only. Winning with three Jefferson Cups when you’re up against the best of the best is a great honor.”

At the Jefferson Cup Invitational, St. James Winery also won a Medal of Excellence (equivalent to a gold medal) for Friendship School Red, and Medals of Merit (silver medals) for St. James Winery’s 2013 Pioneer Red, 2013 Pioneer White, 2013 Cynthiana, Riesling, and Moscato.

St. James Winery is the largest and most awarded winery in Missouri. Celebrating more than 40 years as a family owned and operated winery, St. James Winery wines are sold in stores throughout the Midwest and the South. St. James Winery is online at www.stjameswinery.com.

St. James Winery’s Norton Dessert begs to be sipped from a snifter on late winter evenings, and it’s especially lovely when paired with a cozy fire.

Our Norton Dessert wine is rich and sweet, with a complex structure and flavor of Norton grapes, and the oak imparts a nutty character.

After hearing this weekend’s weather forecast, we think Norton Dessert Wine sounds like a great way to stay nice and warm.

St. James Winery’s Raspberry or Cherry wines!

All our fruit wines are made with real fruit juices, which gives them as close to fresh ripe fruit taste as you can find in a bottle of wine.

Serve St. James Winery Raspberry or Cherry wines well-chilled. They pair beautifully with a big wine glass and an even bigger box of chocolates!

They also taste great alongside your favorite book, so……after dinner, St. James Winery recommends Todd Klimen’ s The Wild Vine: A Forgotten Grape and the Untold Story of American Wine, a book devoted to the fascinating story of the Norton grape.

For two different takes on the same Norton grape, sip along with our 2012 Cynthiana or 2009 Norton, which the San Francisco Chronicle just awarded Double Gold and Gold, respectively.

This month St. James Winery and the Missouri Wine and Grape Board are partnering to celebrate Norton, Missouri’s State Grape.

Norton is a great cold weather wine, so when January serves up a chilly evening, it’s time to grill up some lamb chops, t-bone steaks, or venison loin and pair then with a glass of deep, rich Norton.

St. James Winery’s Norton features aromas of mixed berries mingled with flavors of vanilla, black cherries, blackberries, and pepper.

Our 2011 Estate Norton was recently chosen as Best of Class at the 2013 Grand Harvest Wine Competition.

Steal of a Deal!

St. James Winery - Missouri State Parks Collector's Series

St. James Winery - Missouri State Parks Collector's Series

There is an ongoing trend toward making the holiday season meaningful, whether it’s the events we attend or the gifts we purchase. For wine lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, St. James Winery’s Missouri State Parks Collector’s Editions wines – Johnson’s Shut-Ins Red and Montauk White – embody this principle.

St. James Winery developed a series of wines that celebrate Missouri’s exquisite state parks, and through their partnership with the Missouri State Parks Foundation, proceeds from these wines will go to keep Missouri State Parks strong and sustainable, providing for their future.

The Missouri State Parks Collector’s Edition wines are wonderful additions to your holiday entertaining. Johnson’s Shut-ins Red, a 2012 Norton, is a dry red wine with a fruity nose of plums and red cherries with dynamic flavors of black cherries and blackberries. Montauk White, a 2012 Seyval, is a dry white wine with aromas of melon and grapefruit, bright acid accentuating crisp lemon, green apple, and slate flavors.

Limited amounts of Johnson’s Shut-Ins Red and Montauk White have been bottled, making these true collector’s items, and the specially designed labels are inspired by vintage travel posters. The Missouri State Parks Collector’s Edition wines are available for sale online at www.MOStateParksWine.com for $19.99 a bottle.

If someone you love values the beauty of the natural world, particularly Missouri’s exquisite state parks, then St. James Winery’s Missouri State Parks Collector’s Edition wines are a gift that gives twice – once to the person on your list and once to the future of Missouri’s State Parks.

St. James Winery 2013 Nouveau

For wine lovers November is the month for all things “nouveau,” the name given to wine made from the fruit of the current harvest season. Following the tradition of other wineries around the world, each year St. James Winery releases its Nouveau wine the third Thursday of November. This year that’s November 21.

Nouveau wine customs date back many years and find their roots in the Beaujolais region of France where Nouveau began as a celebration commemorating the end of the grape harvest. However, in a cash-strapped Europe after World War II, the Beaujolais wineries and winemakers developed a wine style designed to be enjoyed right away, without an extended aging process. When the Nouveau was sent to stores in Lyon, France, for sale on the third Thursday of November a new tradition was born.

“This year’s Nouveau is full of the aromas and flavors of black cherries, plums, and wild raspberries. It really fills your mouth and has a lasting finish. It’s going to be perfect with some turkey and fresh cranberry sauce,” says Andrew Meggitt, Executive Winemaker at St. James Winery. “Nouveau is also a wine specially made to drink young, and it’s at the height of its flavor for the first six months, during the red wine drinking months of November through March or April.”

“St. James Winery is one of a very few wineries in Missouri to make a Nouveau wine, our 2013 Nouveau is a rare opportunity for wine lovers to get a sneak peek at the grape harvest which just ended a few weeks ago,” said Peter Hofherr, CEO of St. James Winery. “For us, Nouveau is part of our end of harvest celebration, and this is a really a great wine for the holidays.”

Because St. James Winery Nouveau is produced in small quantities – only 100 cases – fans of the wine know to shop early. Nouveau is available only in the winery’s Tasting Room or online at stjameswinery.com.

St. James Winery, the largest and most awarded winery in Missouri, has been making exceptional wines for more than 40 years. St. James Winery wines are sold in stores throughout the South and Midwest. The winery can be found online at www.stjameswinery.com.

Cut Line: St. James Winery’s 2013 Nouveau will release for sale on November 21. Nouveau is avaible only in the Tasting Room and online at www.stjameswinery.com.
