Sustainability

practices

We’re committed to sustainability because we’re proud of our home and we want to take care of it.

At St. James Winery, sustainability isn’t just a goal—it’s a commitment woven into every step of our winemaking process. From the vineyard to the bottle, we strive to make exceptional wine in ways that care for our environment and future generations.

It all starts in the vineyard, where we meticulously manage our irrigation systems, using advanced soil moisture data to optimize water usage. By fine-tuning every drop, we ensure our grapes thrive while conserving this precious resource. Our state-of-the-art harvesting equipment further reflects this ethos, allowing us to gather our grapes with maximum efficiency and minimal impact.

The commitment to sustainability continues in our winery. We’ve adopted energy-efficient practices throughout fermentation and storage, reducing our carbon footprint without compromising the quality of our wine. By focusing on low-energy solutions, we ensure that every bottle is crafted with care for both taste and the environment.

Even our packaging reflects our values. By choosing recyclable screw tops over traditional corks, we reduce waste while maintaining the freshness and quality our customers expect. This small yet impactful choice ensures that sustainability extends all the way to the final pour.

We believe that exceptional wine should leave a legacy of care—not a footprint. Sustainability isn’t just what we do; it’s who we are.

in Every Detail...

At St. James Winery, we believe that every effort, big or small, contributes to a healthier planet. That’s why sustainability is at the heart of how we operate our facilities.

The little things truly add up: we recycle all usable materials, use energy-efficient and eco-friendly lighting throughout our operations, and compost as much as possible to reduce waste. These everyday actions help us create a culture of environmental responsibility.

But we don’t stop there. The big initiatives matter just as much, such as our state-of-the-art refrigeration system. Designed to conserve energy while maintaining optimal conditions, it supports the unique needs of Missouri’s largest winery without compromising sustainability.

We invite you to see these practices in action. Take a tour of our facilities, and we’ll show you firsthand how we prioritize minimizing our environmental impact while continuing to craft award-winning wines. From cutting-edge innovations to mindful daily habits, every step we take brings us closer to a greener future.

St. James Winery was founded with a mission:

to revive and sustain the rich winemaking traditions of the Meramec Highlands.

Every bottle we craft reflects this heritage, honoring the legacy of the land and the people who nurtured it before us.

Our dedication extends beyond winemaking through our partnership with the Friendship School Foundation. This collaboration allows us to invest in preserving the cultural heritage of our vineyards, our craft, and our vibrant community.

The Foundation’s name is a tribute to the historic 19th-century schoolhouse that still graces our vineyards. This cherished landmark is not only a symbol of our commitment to tradition but also the inspiration behind our Friendship School Red and White wines.

At St. James Winery, we celebrate the harmony of history, community, and craftsmanship, ensuring that the spirit of the Meramec Highlands continues to thrive for generations to come.
