Our wine of the week is The Folly!

A blend of Aromella, Valvin Muscat and Vignoles grapes, The Folly is a medium-bodied, white wine with honeyed peach overtones and beautiful tangerine spice flavors. This dry wine is part of our Winemaker Series, which features select wines that are carefully crafted by our St. James Winery Cellar crew. These wines are handmade in small batches and feature the best-of-the-best varietals and blocks of grapes.

In the words of our Executive Winemaker, Andrew Meggitt, “There are many definitions of the word ‘Folly’ – ‘lack of good sense and foresight’ or ‘an extravagant picturesque building erected to suit a fanciful taste.’ Both might define the rationale for attempting to make this wine. After travelling in the Provence region of France where I tasted the dry, full-bodied, fresh and fruity wines, I wanted one of my own to remember my travels. I hope this wine will take you on a journey of your own. Enjoy with good food and good friends.”

Each season, our St. James Winery Cellar Crew selects the best grapes within our vineyards and carefully crafts them into small batches made for wine connoisseurs, as part of the Winemaker Series. The Folly is a limited release wine that is exclusively available at the St. James Winery Tasting Room and online, while supplies last.

The days are getting longer, and that extra bit of sunshine is perfectly suited to St. James Winery’s newest wine, Sauvignon Blanc.

Our Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp dry white white featuring aromas of guava, kiwi, and white peach. Expect a bright, fresh palate and characteristic flavors of key lime and bell pepper.

Since trout season is right around the corner (opening day is March 1!), plan a day here in St. James Missouri at Maramec Spring Park!

Stop by the winery to pick up some Sauvignon Blanc, and then pair it with appetizers of herbed cheeses on crackers and a main entree off fresh grilled trout.

Making wine is the true passion of St. James Winery’s Executive Winemaker, Andrew Meggitt’s, and it’s no surprise, as a New Zealand native, that Sauvignon Blanc is one of his favorite wines. To honor Meggitt’s exceptional winemaking skills as well as his homeland, St. James Winery has released a new Sauvignon Blanc for 2016.

The Sauvignon Blanc Meggitt has crafted for St. James Winery is a straightforward, honest wine with bold, clean favors and the characteristic Sauvignon Blanc zing on the palate. This new wine also reflects Meggitt’s penchant for blending old and new world winemaking techniques, techniques he learned earlier in his career while working at wineries in France and New Zealand.

Made with fruit from Washington state’s Yakima Valley, Meggitt’s Sauvignon Blanc has aromas of guava, kiwi, and white peach. Enjoy a bright fresh palate and characteristic flavors of key lime and bell pepper. A dry white wine, St. James Winery’s Sauvignon Blanc has no residual sugar and 12% alcohol.

There’s always something special about the third Thursday in November — Nouveau Day! Get your first taste of St. James Winery’s 2015 growing season with our delicious Nouveau wine today!

This year’s Nouveau is a beautiful dry red is made from a select blend of grapes. The 2015 Nouveau has flavors of black cherry and plums. A beautifully crafted wine, it’s well-structured with a lasting finish.

Nouveau is specially made to be enjoyed young, so it will taste delicious alongside whatever you’re serving on your holiday table. And because our Nouveau is produced in small quantities, fans of this fall wine know to shop early!

St. James Winery is one of a very few wineries in Missouri to make a Nouveau wine, which makes this Nouveau a rare opportunity for wine lovers to get a sneak peek at the grape harvest which just ended. It’s part of St. James Winery’s end of harvest celebration!

Nouveau wine customs date back many years and find their roots in the Beaujolais region of France where Nouveau began as a celebration commemorating the end of the grape harvest. However, in a cash-strapped Europe after World War II, the Beaujolais wineries and winemakers developed a wine style designed to be enjoyed right away, without an extended aging process. When the Nouveau was sent to stores in Lyon, France, for sale on the third Thursday of November a new tradition was born.

St. James Winery 2013 Nouveau

For wine lovers November is the month for all things “nouveau,” the name given to wine made from the fruit of the current harvest season. Following the tradition of other wineries around the world, each year St. James Winery releases its Nouveau wine the third Thursday of November. This year that’s November 21.

“This year’s Nouveau is full of the aromas and flavors of black cherries, plums, and wild raspberries. It really fills your mouth and has a lasting finish. It’s going to be perfect with some turkey and fresh cranberry sauce,” says Andrew Meggitt, Executive Winemaker at St. James Winery. “Nouveau is also a wine specially made to drink young, and it’s at the height of its flavor for the first six months, during the red wine drinking months of November through March or April.”

“St. James Winery is one of a very few wineries in Missouri to make a Nouveau wine, our 2013 Nouveau is a rare opportunity for wine lovers to get a sneak peek at the grape harvest which just ended a few weeks ago,” said Peter Hofherr, CEO of St. James Winery. “For us, Nouveau is part of our end of harvest celebration, and this is a really a great wine for the holidays.”

Because St. James Winery Nouveau is produced in small quantities – only 100 cases – fans of the wine know to shop early. Nouveau is available only in the winery’s Tasting Room or online at stjameswinery.com.

St. James Winery, the largest and most awarded winery in Missouri, has been making exceptional wines for more than 40 years. St. James Winery wines are sold in stores throughout the South and Midwest. The winery can be found online at www.stjameswinery.com.

Cut Line: St. James Winery’s 2013 Nouveau will release for sale on November 21. Nouveau is avaible only in the Tasting Room and online at www.stjameswinery.com.

Annually on the third Thursday in November, the first wine bottled to celebrate the new harvest is released for sale. Not all wineries produce a Nouveau, and in fact, St. James Winery is proud to be one of a select group of wineries that produces a Nouveau wine each year.

St. James Winery’s 2012 Nouveau is a lovely dry red, crafted from a select blend of Chambourcin and Rougeon grapes that were grown in the Ozark Highlands AVA. This wine is bursting with flavors of red cherries and fresh raspberries, with underlying notes of cocoa.

A light and fruity wine with low residual sugar, 2012 Nouveau will be a wonderful addition to your Thanksgiving dinner table when paired it with turkey and all the trimmings.

Because Nouveau is made to be enjoyed while it is young, now’s the time to buy it, drink it, and enjoy it.
