January in Missouri is cold temperatures, snowy landscapes, and chilly winds. It’s easy to see why January is also Norton Month in Missouri — Norton is a great way to warm up when you come inside.

St. James Winery’s Estate Norton showcases Missouri’s state grape in a wine that has aromas of mixed berries mingled with flavors of vanilla, black cherries, blackberries, and pepper. This full-bodied dry red (only .4% residual sugar!) has been aged on oak for 12 months. It looks beautiful in the glass and tastes even better!

Enjoy St. James Winery Estate Norton with grilled lamb or venison!

In honor of Norton Month and the cold temperature, here are some of our favorite warm and hearty soup recipes featuring St. James Winery’s Estate Norton.

And our Cherry Fudge Cake is delicious for dessert…served with a glass of Norton. Of course!

2015_harvest

As of 9:19pm on August 11, harvest is on here at St. James Winery, and so far the results have been absolutely glorious!

“Throughout the summer, our Meramec Highlands region has received abundant rainfall,” said Andrew Meggitt, executive winemaker for St. James Winery. “The fruit quality has been outstanding, and the taste profile of the grapes is excellent. So far we’re very well pleased with the 2015 harvest.”

Already this season, St. James Winery has harvested Aromella, Niagara, Rougeon, Seyval, and Vincent. These blending grapes make up some of your favorite wines. For instance, Seyval finds its home in Pioneer White and Rougeon is found in our Friendship School Red.

We’re all harvesting Vignoles, but the waiting and ripening continue with blocks of Chambourcin and Norton grapes.

Pick up a few bottles of your favorite grapes!

The dog days of summer are upon us, and St. James Winery’s new Blackberry Blueberry Fruit Wine, a summertime perfect blend of blackberries and blueberries, is a great way to beat the heat.

Like all St. James Winery’s award-winning fruit wines, Blackberry Blueberry is made from 100% real fruit with no added colors or flavorings, making it a delicious starting point for wine cocktails, a cool treat when sipped chilled, and a great secret ingredient for cooking.

Use it to make a genuine fruit cocktail by pouring the wine over blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries, refrigerating the mixture for a couple of hours, then serve on skewers.

Blackberry Blueberry wine is the perfect base for cool treats like Fruit Wine Pops and Fruit Wine Shooters. To make the pops, blend 4 cups of blackberries and blueberries in a food processor, add sugar to taste (about 3/4 cup), then add 3/4 of a bottle of Blackberry Blueberry Wine, and a squeeze of lemon juice.Blend together, pour into popsicle molds, and freeze until solid. For the shooters, dissolve a two 3-ounce boxes gelatin (one blackberry one blueberry) in 2 cups of boiling water, add 2 cups of wine and pour into 1-ounce shooter glasses and chill until set.

Country family_2015

The iconic Route 66, also known as “Main Street of America,” is a fixture in American popular culture. Ever since St. James Winery opened in 1970, the Main Street of America has been an everyday part of the winery’s life because the original route runs directly past the St. James Winery Vineyards and Tasting Room and through the town of St. James.

This summer to celebrate and honor the tradition and heritage of Route 66, St. James Winery’s Country Red and Country White wines are getting a fresh new look with eye-catching art that pays tribute to the winery’s little piece of “The Mother Road.” The labels feature a distinctive old blue pickup truck motoring down the road, its bed filled with crates of red and white grapes and sporting a Route 66 license plate on the back bumper.

St. James Winery Country Red and Country White wines are both delicious sweet wines. Country Red is bursting with delicate fruity flavors and aromas and flavors of fresh berries, while Country White features flavors of ripe pears, green apples, and melons. Both pair well with spicy foods, making them the perfect choice for a backyard barbecue featuring hot and spicy sauces.

Look for the new labels on St. James Winery’s Country Red and Country White wines at grocery and wine stores throughout the South and Midwest. The countdown to summer is on, and at St. James Winery that means only one thing – time for a new summer seasonal: Pineapple Mango Fruit Wine.

Pineapple Mango wine is a tropical taste treat designed to match the season, and it’s the perfect complement to longer days filled with sun.

St. James Winery Pineapple Mango Wine, like all the winery’s fruit wines, is delicious mixed in wine cocktails, a cool treat when sipped chilled, and a great secret ingredient for cooking.

Make on the rocks Pineapple Mango Margaritas by mixing a bottle of St.James Winery Pineapple Mango wine with seven ounces of tequila, a quarter cup each of chopped fresh pineapple and mango. Add the juice of a lemon, plus a dash of lime juice. Serve in salt-rimmed margarita glasses with slices of pineapple on the rim. Pineapple Mango wine is also delicious as the base for sangria.

St. James Winery Pineapple Mango wine pairs with either sweet or salty (or both!). Enjoy a glass with tropical inspired deserts like coconut cake or orange pound cake. For a salty snack, Pineapple Mango wine is wonderful when paired alongside spicy mango salsa and chips.

Country Red and Country White cows, we salute you!

Over the years our vintage cow labels have had a great run, but all good things must end. This spring our Country Red and Country White cows are being put out to pasture, making these end-of-an-era bottles into collectibles.

Bottle collectors, take advantage of this opportunity to snap up some bottles for your collections.

But don’t worry, Country Red and Country White will continue! The same award winning wines you love will debut fresh new labels later this year!
