St. James Winery’s first an annual campaign against childhood hunger, which began in March and ran through the end of May 2013, raised a total of $14,100 in support of child feeding programs throughout the state of Missouri.
“The St. James Winery family is so thankful for the generosity of our customers who supported our to feed Missouri children,” said Peter Hofherr, CEO of St. James Winery. “We weren’t sure what to expect for a grand total, but we are thrilled with the $14,100 we raised. Now we can’t wait until next year to see if we can beat mark we’ve established with our 2013 campaign.”
“Unfortunately, there are thousands of children living in poverty in Missouri, kids living in every county and in every community. For these at-risk children, breakfast and lunch at school are the only source of reliable nutrition, and backpack programs make a difference because the packs are stocked with hygiene supplies and kid-friendly, nutritious foods when there’s simply not enough to eat at home.”
“For the past five years, our winery family has been dedicated to the reduction of childhood hunger by raising money for the Buddy Pack program here in Phelps County, Missouri,” Hofherr continued. This new, larger program simply gives our customers the opportunity to help improve the quality of life for children in a very concrete way.”
Monies from St. James Winery’s fundraising efforts were divided among the six food banks in Missouri: Ozarks Food Harvest (Southwest Missouri); Southeast Missouri Food Bank; St. Louis Area Foodbank; Harvesters Community Food Network (Kansas City Area); Second Harvest Community Foodbank (Northwest Missouri); and the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. The Missouri Food Bank Association distributes more than 90 million pounds of food each year through a network of more than 2000 community programs, including the child-feeding programs for kids. The MFBA and its local food bank child-feeding programs are active in every county in the state of Missouri and serve tens of thousands of at-risk children each year.
