St. James Winery’s annual campaign against childhood hunger, which ran through March and April, raised a total of $10,000 for the six food banks that are supported by the Missouri Food Bank Association (MFBA).
In addition to the statewide MFBA program, the staff at St. James Winery and customers in the St. James Winery Tasting Room also raised an additional $500 for the St. James Caring Center, to go towards their child feeding programs in St. James, Missouri.
“Everyone here at St. James Winery is very grateful for the generous support of our customers to help us feed thousands of hungry children here in Missouri,” said Peter Hofherr, CEO of St. James Winery. “In every county and in every community, there are children living in poverty. For these at-risk children, breakfast and lunch at school are the only source of reliable nutrition. Backpack programs make a tremendous difference because the packs are stocked with hygiene supplies and kid-friendly, nutritious foods.”
Monies from St. James Winery’s fundraising efforts are divided among the six food banks in Missouri: Ozarks Food Harvest (Southwest Missouri); Southeast Missouri Food Bank; St. Louis Area Foodbank; Harvesters Community Food Network (Kansas City Area); Second Harvest Community Foodbank (Northwest Missouri); and the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.
The MFBA distributes more than 90 million pounds of food each year through a network of more than 2000 community programs, including the child-feeding programs for kids. The MFBA and its local food bank child-feeding programs are active in every county in the state of Missouri and serve tens of thousands of at-risk children each year.
