Winemaker Profile - Andrew Meggitt Print

Andrew’s philosophy on winemaking is simple: "to capture the flavors and rhythms of the vineyard in the glass and never be afraid to embrace science and technology where it offers improved quality."

As head winemaker at St. James Winery Andrew has done just that. Under his tenure, St. James Winery has consistently been among the top five gold medal awarded wineries in the nation.

A native New Zealander, Andrew received a graduate degree in winemaking from Lincoln University, New Zealand and went on to make wine in his home country as well as France. He has traveled extensively in Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the USA and his wine experiences during these travels influenced his outlook not only on winemaking styles but methodology and life, reinforcing his desire to be part of the wine industry and to encourage others to enjoy the wine experience.

Andrew is active in the Missouri wine community serving as President and co-founder of the Missouri Wine Technical Group, a peer to peer wine analysis organization and serves as a member of the Missouri Wine & Grape Board Research Committee. He currently writes a column on winemaking for the local paper, The Rolla Daily News.
